Show PostSo when I say a model isn't "paintable" I mean it isn't designed to be painted but it is designed to look cool in render. But a render is not the product. It is still abstracted through two layers of artifice.
Show PostMeanwhile Nolzurs straighy up lie with a "painted example" infact being a colorised render.
Show PostHere is an exaggerated example of what I mean. There are grooves and pockets designed to suck in a wash, sharp corners designed to take a drybrush or catch a highlight, and features are scaled up so the tip of an average 00 paint brush can hit it. It's not realistic, but it is paintable.
