Every time I work with teachers they talk to me about their frustration with the 'sameness' demanded of them in class and how tedious it must be for learners. I don't understand why people mix up consistency with uniformity. You can have consistent standards but still have flexible approaches.

Something that bugs me in educational discourse is when people shift their views according to the prevailing winds. Just have some values and stick to them. The point isn't maintaining proximity to power, it's having values. Once every ten years someone will say you were right all along anyway.
