I loved it for years, bought the box sets (remember that?), loved the character of the mother, though hated most of the rest of the final season, then never watched a single episode again after that finale.

My memory is that the scenes with the kids were filmed around Season 5, and fair enough if that's the ending you're building towards. The problem is that they then spent the next 4 seasons building towards a totally different ending.
