I enjoyed your analysis of the potential UK position going forward but wondered where the EU fits in all this. Geo-politically and economically they would prefer closer alignment but getting the 27 to agree how this looks will be a challenge

@steverichards.bsky.social suggested in his excellent “Rock and Roll” podcast that Starmer’s political confidence was lost after the Hartlepool by-election. He trusted those to have better political nous than he. It meant he wasn’t true to himself. And they didn’t.

@steverichards.bsky.social often makes the point that a successful PM has to explain not just WHAT their government is doing, but WHY. That’s what I think much of the analysis of Sky’s leaked 50-page Starmer document is missing.
