How many non-white and blonde mothers who get thrown into prison, for crimes they didn’t commit or for harsh sentences do we do this sentimental act for? It’s a very politically charged thing to do, on the basis of identity. Everything about that movie depends on you wanting to sympathize with her.

You can do the whole “she’s a mother being taken away from her children” thing with anyone. Martin Shkreli was just a neurodivergent working class kid who really believed in his company.
