One of the trickiest parts of coding wars for the @correlatesofwar.bsky.social is deciding when a war "transitions" into another war. Case in point, the "Wars" in Iraq (below is the result of my RA and I walking through the wars various changes on my office whiteboard)

One of the upgrades we'll be making to the War Data in the @correlatesofwar.bsky.social is updating the data to the present (it ends in 2007). That leads to a "pop quiz" to test your knowledge of wars and the COW war coding rules Question: Will the 2008 Russo-Georgian War be added to the COW data?

It's also meaningful because Singer's work continued under the care of Wayman, Sarkees, and Dixon, and I've lost count over the years of how often I refer to "Resort to War" by Wayman and Sarkees www.amazon.com/dp/0872894347
