the reason I have such a distaste of AI is precisely *because* it's useful that is, if you would like to save time and money, to make hollow creations deprived of humanity, and you're morally okay polluting the world with creatively uninspiring husks to hurt the artists whose work trained your toy

but maybe I'm biased as someone who spent a year making a video about splines, for whatever reason what a waste of time, why not generate all this now? actually why even learn about splines at all, AI will implement it better than you soon anyway, so why bother acquiring literally any knowledge?

this wave of AI has legitimately killed a huge part of what I loved about seeing stuff online, what I loved about being an educator, and what I loved about sharing my own work I just don't feel like doing it anymore

All that being said, being against this tech because of the negative externalities, what it does to human labor etc are all valid reasons to oppose it and I share some of those views. I just think that saying the tech doesn't work isn't tenable anymore.

It's frustrating because I want these companies to be regulated, the datacenter buildouts to be stopped, and an end the capitalistic and geopolitical prisoners dilemmas that are driving the self destructive tendency to advance this tech in absolutely reckless ways.
