Look what I found in the woods in my yard! This is Monotropa uniflora, aka "ghost pipes." They are parasitic plants, with no chlorophyll of their own, that feed from fungal networks in the soil. The fungi, in turn, are connected to nearby tree roots, which provide sugars. #nativeplants

Tiny flower. Huge impact. These small fleabane flowers pop up all around the neighborhood. Next to the street, cracks in the pavement, any sunny spot. And they always have fascinating little bugs on them #NativePlants #BloomScrolling #invertebrates 🌿 🐝
