this! my biggest problem with redemption arcs is that once a character has been "redeemed," the other characters often have to forgive and spend time with the "redeemed" character. and to me that goes to the overall cultural pressure to forgive and forget and keep giving out fresh chances.

it was because, you see, they needed to save their big brains to make a lot of MONEY to then DONATE that money to EFFECTIVE CAUSES. my friend found this bewildering and insane but she was in her early twenties so she struggled to articulate why.
