And this is important for science because people like Russell Vought, people who are destroying American science today, are people who don’t think the Constitution protects everyone’s right to practice the faith they choose (or no faith at all). We can’t fix science without restoring that principle.

That rejection of separation of church and state by some aspects of the institutional movement right, and a big part of its donor class, is a huge huge driver of what’s happening to the US today. And it is too rarely discussed. Good for El-Sayed for highlighting it.
