what's my point here? i'm not sure if i have one, other than the hate they face is deliberate and transparent

jebewon is an interesting case because their strong, direct connections to queer culture open themselves up to homophobia, both in the typical ways but also in qrts accusing them of being "gay4pay" or "queerbaiters." which is a fascinating angle because that has majority drawbacks in the long run

because a het partner is direct competition (in the case of women and male idols). it's a fantasy, it's pepero game, which is why actual queer cues largely go over these fans' heads. it's also why if something starts being too "real", they lash out. for others, it's just pure and blatant homophobia

a substantial, arguably majority even, part of kpop fandom has no interest in having actual out queer idols. for some, there's a sort of safety in projection onto an idol, a kind of subset of gf stan thinking that goes something like, "gay shipping means i don't have to see them with a het partner."
