My son and I are reading through the Bible, start to finish. I was struck by how many times He tells us to treat the immigrant among you kindly, amidst all of the carnage in the Pentateuch. Stone this person. Wipe out that tribe. Punish these sins. But be kind to the immigrant.

I can empathize, come alongside people, give, and encourage my government to give, because my one certainty about God's truth is that He's not playing some zero-sum "someone has to lose for someone else to win" game with the universe. 4/

I saw that statement 2 and wondered what it says about God's truth that 4/10 people believe that it's "more important" than being empathetic to people. Because to me, I've learned, the core of God's true character is generosity. But I have to let go of what I have to receive what He has for me. 3/
