i will say one of the three or so recent Gen Z Gaming Hot Takes(TM) i straight up reject is the notion that Sonic Mania is actually garbage and not an authentic Sonic game, and that Black Knight is still the last "real" Sonic game.

i will contest that it would've been nice to have more original levels but the actual game feel and level design itself are so top notch. Mania was literally my time waster for three years after launch and what got me back into Sonic. it is a very good game.

honestly the issue is likely just a byproduct of the incredibly black and white thinking you see nowadays where something is either an "absolutely perfect masterpiece" or an "inexcusably awful disaster with no redeeming qualities" and nothing else. so in short i blame the American grading sysyem.
