Thinking about and studying the way science functions and how it could do better is important work. It's amazing that the UK has a specific metascience unit to do this. But what a shame that instead of doing so they're investing in projects to study how AI can automate research evaluation.
Show PostOh that's nice. A university just wrote to me thanking me for writing a recommendation letter for a student that they've now accepted. I don't remember getting an email like that before and even though it's probably automated, it still feels nice. At some point someone decided to put in the effort.
Show PostIn particular, it was a new experience to present work not primarily to get people excited about the ideas in the work, but to raise questions like: can these ideas be tested? Does this approach to doing computational neuroscience make sense? etc. We should perhaps do more of this!
