Moved to New York 12 years ago this month. I still feel sheepish about calling myself a New Yorker, but I think 2020 protests and being maced in the face on these streets is as good a reason as any to be called one

Despite the fun renderings done by artists and advocates, there is, today, no real alternative to rebuilding the BQE. There are no actual studies that show a path forward other than a rebuild. Did DeBlasio or Adams want to reform DOT to think different? No, and Adams did the opposite.

Let me defend a bad decision here. The time to start working on a real plan to remove the BQE was 10yrs ago. In that time, the DOT has only put out one plan: build a temp highway to rebuild the main span. That's it. So now, 10 years later, the structure is in critical shape and there are no alts.
