Adding 10 hrs of psych training will do nothing. Adding 2 YEARS of psych, sociology, etc. will absolute change things … by changing WHO APPLIES. Right now it’s ~5 months of gun training followed by getting a gun, badge, and weK oversight. Turn training into a social work associates defeee!

A common source of irritation for many non-centrist police reformers is a call for “more” or “better” training. And I generally agree: micro-tweaks to training can‘t change culture, and you can’t train culture. Except! What if we adopted Euro training times? Self-selection would be a BEAST.

For ex, adding more US cops, trained as poorly as US cops currently are, will not get us policing like they have in Berlin, where policing training is SO much longer and SO much different. Like, cops are not all the same everywhere, even if we are counting them the same way (which ... unclear).
