Being a parent doesn't automatically mean you are a good person and/or good at being the parent a child needs. It's not a moral panic. It's shit parents meeting the consequences of their actions.

Our culture is moving on from seeing the parent/child relationship as a default lifelong moral obligation to something more malleable or voluntary. I think a lot of people used to choose their parents over their spouses or personal freedom by default and this trend is an open refutation of all that.
