If the goal is solely to convey content/ideas, I'd clean up the text more, for maximum readability. If you also want to capture voice/identity, then I'd do more a minimal cleanup for basic legibility. Either way, instead of (sic), I'd just explain the cleanup approach used in the methods section.

QUALITATIVE SOCIOLOGISTS: Need advice! Emily Shafer and I are using what people typed into a text box on a survey as qualitative data. What should we do when quoting them in a Soc paper? Correct misspellings, typos, "bad grammar? Put it as they typed it? With or w/o "sic"?
