if you can no longer afford the property taxes you don't deserve to keep it anyway, because it means you made yourself rich off perpetuating the housing shortage and are just upset any of your money might be needed to shore up the crumbling infrastructure your wealth made possible.

I totally get the desire to subsidize cash-poor elderly homeowners, but doing that tends to have a ton of bad downstream effects on everybody. It’s one of the reasons California is a basket case.
