In my field of work (military), you rarely find people who are not using nicotine in one way or other during "interesting times". And at least in my experience it operates to return you to a "neutral mood-state". Is there any modern such research? 2/3

This research was quoted in Malcolm Gladwell's book Tipping Point iirc. Long before that book was written, I used to be the occasional smoker, and found it gave a pleasant relaxing 'buzz' - ideal after a long stint at work.

Peach harvest has been screwed since the collapse of the Jet Stream in 2019. Peach blossoms bloom the day after Christmas, and then it freezes again and the flowers all fall off. Then in 2024 the big peach farm near me lost three quarters of their trees in Hurricane Helene. Still We Are Voting.
