That, and reminds me a bit of the old days of game localization too, where sometimes teams would just be given lists of key terms and then snippets of script out of context and not be told anything more about it
Show PostI’ve heard of a few instances of video game voice actors straight up not being told what they’re working on at all. There really should be laws against this kind of shithousery. If there aren’t any already.
Show PostIt was also a union dub, too, which added to my desire to do it. After I found out who they really were, I was frankly a tad embarrassed.
Show PostYyyyup. Had a small part in the English dub of a live-action Happy Science film. Didn't know who they were at the time. Sure, the plot description sounded a tad eccentric, but frankly, that describes *a lot* of Japanese movies/TV shows (and indeed, that's generally part of their appeal as an actor).
Show PostThis is more common than you’d sadly think. In the anime voice acting sphere, there is a series of animated films made by an actual cult known as Happy Science. A lot of household name actors have voiced in these; I doubt many of them knew that when they recorded. Sometimes it’s just a paycheck.
