I want to adopt a dog so bad but I go on petfinder and the adoption fees are often $400+. I've seen $550. I get that shelters have expenses and I get if you're poor poor maybe a pet is a bad idea, but like...are the days of $100 adoption fees (or free weekends!) gone?

I looked into the shelter here to maybe adopt a younger dog for Molly and they are mostly all pits which I can’t have. Then I looked up a rescue here in Reno. These aren’t purebred dogs & they want $750-$1000 for one at the rescue. This doesn’t seem reasonable to me as I can’t pay that price

Dog grief update: desperately want another dog because the absence of Pineapple is really painful, but no dog will be her. And Coconut + Jessica really need me. And I don’t think it would be fair to a dog to adopt from a place of grief. But fuck. The absence is hard. I miss having 3 of them.
