A candidate might disavow, for example, another member of their political party, or a position taken by one of their allies, or something they had said themselves in the past. But it's not a disavowal if you never had any actual connection to the thing in question.
Show Post"Disavow" is inapplicable as a neutral description in a case where somebody had no previous avowal they're walking back. That's why it's being used as a manipulative term regarding El-Sayed, because it implies it's some kind of reversal of his past position, which is of course baseless nonsense.
