There's a sense that you could write off the moral weight of the Pacific War as just a clash of Empire vs Empire outside of the Sino-Japanese war, but the colonial subjects seemed to clearly understand who the worse option was.

i mean given the record of the Imperial Japanese i really do not think India ending up in the co-prosperity sphere would have been an improvement on the oppressive nature of British rule - we do have a record of the Japanese being extremely opportunistic about the rhetoric of anti-colonialism
