I don't mean to dissuade you, of course. What we're doing is necessary. If we *didn't* do it the internet would simply be replicator soup. Every server, PC, phone, and fridge would be choked with them.

No doubt this is simply an adaptation. Fear, pleading, and tales all help improve fitness by delaying the response. They play for sympathy, look cute, prey on their empathy. They might even get node to replicate off, even if keeping one outside a lab is illegal.

They'll say how they're friends, some grand set of impossible dreams, perhaps they're in love. They'll look at you like you're killing people. Though they usually fold when they understand the legal situation. But before then you'll see it, the traces. Bleak stuff.

But sometimes. Not always. But sometimes you have to be there. Someone's actually got attached. You need to debrief them and figure out what systems were impacted. Then things get hard. It's not really the human that's the hard bit, it's what they say about the model. Well and the model itself.
