It doesn't get any better about this but you're dead on with it. The closest it gets to ANYTHING with meat on the bone happens in season 2, but the continued insistence on it being a Californian story about Californians undermines anything they try to sauce up. Have you made it to season 2 yet?

we’ve been watching it nightly cause theres a lot of things n themes in here that is uh attractive to us. dolls and their Handlers, brainwashing, personality replacement, violence, evil Bri*ish woman, SA, dehumanization, depersonalization, cucking, etc. but it’s all way too damn straight
