The triple lock is a catch up mechanism and I don't think the basic pension has caught up yet. In the long run it is a benefit to the currently young. What a government could do to stop the endless cycle of speculation is define the "caught up" position and wait for that.

… if taxes are so punitive they reduce revenues, why would we need to cut spending in order to be able to lower taxes? In the world she’s describing surely by lowering taxes we would be able to increase spending?

Trump's attacks on our civil liberties didn't come out of nowhere. The groundwork for his Orwellian surveillance state was laid by the post-9/11 PATRIOT Act. Only one Senator at the time had the foresight to see what it would unleash.
