Even if tech companies prevail on "fair use" that does not help end users. It means businesses and the public have to make their own individual "fair use" defenses when they are sued. They cannot rely on tech firms cases directly. It means publishers won't deal with AI content as a result.

Leaving his own folders open is a different kind of slip from anything an ID check looks for. A face-to-ID check only says whether two photos look alike, so it says little about what someone does once they're in. Who do you think the new gates are really built to catch?

Hopefully this will stem the flood of low-effort books without inconveniencing authors too much. And I wouldn't trust Amazon (or most anyone) to use any measure that relied on AI detection. I do hope the limit doesn't drop much further, though.
