It is true that these days there’s a kind of transphobia that captures public imagination and animates many modern forms of gender terror, one that illustrates a struggle between ordinary vulnerable women (and their children) vs. a masculinely depicted threat.
Show PostNot to say everyone who gets on board with this view is a misogynist, but misogyny is a big part of what shapes the prevalence of this illusion. It’s not hard to see characterizations of transphobia more broadly as primarily about “protecting women.”
Show PostMany, many people focus their understanding of transphobia on cis women and cis women’s movements, such as TERFs, GCs, or anxiety around “female spaces.” To the point that cis female gender anxiety gets blamed for the entirety of transphobia. I do not like this! It is misleading and it is misogyny.
