I'm desperately trying to work out what actual swears led the author to this choice of words. It could only be better by adding the classic American misplaced bloody. "Oh, bloody for crying in the piss!" perhaps.

(I'm not really writing two more books this year. I have one to finish, and while I want VERY, VERY BADLY to get BEARY LITTLE CHRISTMAS done this year, it would be easier on my poor tired brain to write a novella for early next year instead, so that's what I'm going to do. It's still another 80K.)
