Oligarchs will keep burning our planet to build an AI god that will never come. Politicians will keep serving capital as the world burns. But I’m not pessimistic about humanity, only our institutions. We can still build beautiful communities rooted in care, solidarity, and lives worth living.

This isn’t doomerism, nor an argument against voting or fighting GOP voter suppression. Voting can materially improve lives, or at least keep them from getting worse. So please, vote. But don’t mistake the temporary relief of winning an election for the work of building a better world.

I’m not looking forward to 2028 where so many of us are gonna keep talking about issues we need to address and so many won’t listen because the motivator of “fuck Trump” will be gone and people just want comfort over doing the work to actually fix things.

In November, Dems will likely win big. Liberals will feel relieved. In 2028, a milquetoast corporate Democrat will win the presidency, spend 4 years maintaining what Trump did as liberals go back to brunch. Then, in 2032, as life keeps getting worse, we’ll get something like President T Carlson.
