I pay taxes for schools despite not having kids because I live in a society. The retired people who don't want to pay property taxes are weird. They still use roads and other public services. But the US is a deeply individualistic society run by Republicans hyper-focused on exclusionary policies.

I quit/was fired from a job at a cafe in a retirement community when I found out that their “all from scratch, entirely fresh!!” smoothie menu was made from powder packets and a frozen banana and did not hide my surprised face well enough. Made it 3 days.

A local coffee shop keeps its doors open year-round so has great ventilation. I often wait by the door for my drink for fresh air when it's busy. The barista noticed my N95 & started bringing my drink to me - without me even asking. This is community 💜

It took me withholding my signature on the lease renewal, and stonewalling a Thorwin property manager's requests to sign it weeks, to get a simple light installed in my shower just so I wasn't taking showers in the dark. Sometimes you get lucky and can pressure them with the right leverage.
