Also we know that declining response rates are an absolutely huge problem in political polling, but we seem to forget this with all other sorts of survey data. Are we sure this isn't just picking up demographic pyramid effects and failures to sample groups who don't answer the phone?

Or it might just be people genuinely changing their tastes! It is possible to go overboard on this "o the humanity" stuff; the Finns are people just like the Greeks.
