Like "Hey, help me get a new hard drive, I'll play Dark Doom Knight 64 on max difficulty until the clock runs out or until I win, we're starting at 3 hours and each donated dollar adds 5 minutes to the clock" and they'll jokingly call it a Suffer-athon because the game is so hard.

I think subathons are more prone to happening in September on Twitch due to the lower sub price I mentioned, but whatever-athons can happen any time a streamer needs to capture audience interest or to raise money for whatever reason (which includes their own needs, or charity, for example).

It's Subtember, subscriptions are cheaper so streamers try to have events where they will do X thing for a long time (marathon) to get people to subscribe, hence the glut of sub-athons. Some people prefer to encourage donations so they do dona-thons. Some have a gimmick so they have [gimmick]athons.
