Maybe I'm naive, but I'm sticking to my hunch that coddled 21st century Americans don't actually have the stomach for prolonged civil violence. About half of Civil War soldiers were farmers: work so brutal and dreary that marching, camping, and shooting rifles with your bros is comparably fun.
