it's really easy to mistake ratchets for pendulums if you zoom in and observe for only a small amount of time. but if you zoom out and watch for a while it's obvious what's going on has nothing to do with harmonic oscillation because there is always a force being applied
Show Postpendulums are better modeled as teeth on a ratchet you think it's swinging backwards but all that is really happening is the movement in one direction is being locked into place so it can begin anew, tighter than before
