So the problem was just the equipment? The CSB identified much more: inadequate process safety management, missing hazard assessments, weak operating procedures and inadequate emergency preparedness at Watson Grinding. Maybe the facility’s own safety practices deserve a closer look.

Taking AI risk seriously doesn’t require assuming the worst outcome is inevitable. The more useful question is what we can actually do about it. Sandboxing agents, monitoring what they do and stopping them when they cross a boundary feels like a pretty good place to start.

I don’t think American company sells chips in China = China wins is that simple. If the alternative is Chinese companies moving faster toward Huawei and building an ecosystem that doesn’t need American tech at all, that’s a pretty important part of the equation too.
