Congrats to Nicholas Mark, Max Besbris, and team on receiving a 2026 Igniting Interdisciplinary Innovation award! 👏 They’re combining high-res satellite/weather data with consumer spending metrics to map how floods disrupt finances. Jeremy was my inspiration for running for ASA publications committee. Since my term recently ended, I can report that, as everybody including my own candidate statement (reproduced here) predicted, I accomplished absolutely nothing. (All of our meetings were virtual; there was no food)

That said, while I adore JLM, he’s Editor of AJS and hence the most powerful person in US Journal Sociology. If he wants to tout the “methodological rigor” of current sociology, he could revise their open science policy so it doesn’t make sociologists sound like stubborn & slow-witted schoolkids.
