I think if you want to introduce an older child to the deeper Humans vs environment themes Hoppers tried to speak on watch Pom Poko with them. Pom Poko is one of the best nature vs encroaching civilization movies ever made. Hoppers was cute but I wish it had a little more to say.

I really wanted to love Hoppers but the longer I sit with it the more empty it felt. It wasnt really about protecting the environment just one place. It touched on activism but not well. Mabels relationship with her parents is undefined and the attempt at ghibli both sides are valid-ism fell flat.
