Remember: People have been cutting off their parents for centuries. It just used to be easier to disappear. Going to America? Bye! Settling the West? Bye! More recently, people have been cutting off their parents and telling them why using therapy terms since at least the 1980s.

have a dad just like this. can confirm he is not taking "no contact" very well at all. going no contact is the only respite some of us get from parents like these and yet they will still find a way to blame their children.

It's always a "shock" to narcissistic people. I guarantee they've been told very clearly and repeatedly exactly what the problem is, likely for years, but their reaction will still be "I was blindsided! This came out of nowhere!"
