But ultimately I think that using error bars as a communication device can be bad because it's a form of pollster hedging. If the point of measures of uncertainty is signaling uncertainty, rather than quantifying it, then we'll choose the ones that show uncertain, inconclusive results.

I hate to be *that* guy, but the confidence interval should decrease in the party share: here they just slapped ±4 around each proportion, but the Lib Dems being at 4% isn't "as likely as" Labour being at 23%. I don't know if "no error bars is better than bad error bars" but surely we can do better.
