Looking back downgrade towards the Payne Mine, the Cody Branch serpentined its way along the mountainside above both Carpenter Creek and the mainline to Sandon. The rustic-looking 6 ft long flatted ties, cut top and bottom only to reduce cost, belie the sophisticated engineering of the line.
