Urusei Yatsura also had a lot of changes and didn't follow the original manga closely, but it had much sharper writing, arguably added a lot more personality to some characters while exploring them and their relationships while being VERY funny and experimental at times w animation, Ranma aged worse

it destroyed the characters, the themes and story arcs and sexualized much more every female character just to have a neverending comedy harem anime, something that the original manga wasn't

on comedy, and as it progressed, it became increasingly worse. character arcs and story progression were completely ignored and not adapted, early gags became stretched for 150 episodes, characters were omitted or flanderized just for cheap laughs and in the end it had baaaad animation

originally it was fine, if a tad slow, with pretty animation and more of a focus on characters and romance than comedy. then that was cancelled after episode 20, and replaced by a technically different show, Ranma ½ Nettōhen, that picked where it left off but with cheaper animation, more of a focus
