An almost throwaway remark in the Guardian article David linked is that UK taxpayers face a £12 billion for decommissioning North Sea infrastructure. Why should UK taxpayers have to foot the bill for this? Oil companies made huge profits, so why aren't they on the hook for cleaning up their mess?
