I feel like the design would show the "center-leftist democracy" aspect if the soldiers were allowed to add personal decorations to their armor! Sayings, flags from home or causes they support, keychains, bandanas wrapped around their heads/arms, etc. Like a dictatorship turned democracy aesthetic

Reminds me of a thought experiment I had about an alien species that look like they crawled out of H.R. Giger’s nightmares, but are the most altruistic sophonts in the galaxy who share their technology and set up relief missions everywhere.
