No, it's actually good. Any show that could get off something as out of pocket as the "Lipizzaner Stallion" episode had the juice, though Nick, WB and CN all generally had amazing runs in the 1990s. More winners than duds, even in hindsight.

As good as Angry Beavers was, Hey Arnold had many episodes that remain high watermarks for how nuanced & heartwrenching a US kids' cartoon has ever been. It's a bit apples & oranges, but between Mr. Hyunh's backstory, the Xmas special, Pigeon Man & Helga's whole arc? It should've stacked Emmys.

Again, not say to anything Nick did around then was bad, but Hey Arnold maybe the creative peak of the network. When it was funny, it was great & when it was heavy, it did everything every other cartoon tried to do with special episodes, but did so without any contrivances, using sincerity alone.
