💥 New publication! 💥 Using fMRI in younger and older adults, we show that brain representations of taxonomic relationships (e.g., dog–bear) and thematic relationships (e.g., dog–leash) depend on task and aging: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

(3) Aging was associated with a decline in domain-general and domain-specific executive control, more right-hemispheric ATL involvement, and a shift from taxonomic towards thematic processing. Increased thematic activity was associated with higher accuracy but slower responses.

(2) Several semantic regions - including ATL and TPC - showed a task-dependent response to taxonomic and thematic relationships. Semantic control regions (e.g. left IFG, mPFC) flexibly responded to task-relevant semantic relations.

Three key findings emerged: (1) Contrary to the dual-hub theory, ATL and TPC were sensitive to both taxonomic and thematic relationships, with a graded thematic bias.
