In the USA, social studies (and history and science!) can look veeeeery different depending on what kind of school/education your parents support.

I grew up in Tulsa in a conservative family and neighborhood, so I understand how that early inculcation works. But it didn't take long to realize how out of touch they were and even dangerous to the body politic in their views. Unfortunately, I was the only one in my family to escape.
