This book is so complicated. I feel like I get a lot of cultural osmosis about it being a romance, and the romance is very memorable, but this whole thing is about a whole network of families navigating a Missing Stair abuser conundrum.

Elizabeth KNOWS and SEES that Mr Bennet is negligent husband and father, and she sees Lydia’s behavior as evidence of that. However, I think the text also kind of suggests that Elizabeth understands her own disrespect of her mother to be part of that failure on the part of Mr Bennet as a husband!
