It's not going for a fully seamless look, but I think it also does a great job of making the characters feel like they inhabit the world. Just enough painted texture on the character cels to bring them closer to the BGs, plus it's always more believable when you see them move while preserving volume
Show PostExpressiveness that is acted out, rather than disconnected reaction shots, impressive volumetry to the drawings despite the conceptual simplicity of the designs, and a fair amount of secondary movement to breathe extra life into the world. Also, a sense of humor rooted in the animation itself!

This was also a super challenging translation to do as well as a challenging translation to edit due to amount of amount of technical jargon included and I'm pretty happy with the results! The original links to the interview in Chinese is included in the article as well.
